binface
One of the few things I miss about living in Dallas is finding and photographing grafitti. I rarely see any in McKinney. Every once in a while though, I do spy something, like this face on a trash bin.
scribblings from historic downtown McKinney, Texas: altered art, local color, flora, fauna, cemeteries, irrational commentary, improbable-and-unlikely diy home projects

“Nothing good in the world has ever been done by well-rounded people. The good work is done by people with jagged broken edges because those edges cut things and leave an imprint…” - Harry Crews
a small tribute to an old friend, Larry Killingsworth. I just learned that he died last month. The last time I […]
Pardon the debris.
I was enamored of the colors and style of the theme I’ve been using for the last year or so, but lately I’ve felt it’s too “busy” and hard to read. I will be experimenting so the layout may suffer, but the blog should still be accessible.
I also need to find my thesaurus.
I’ve been doing “man’s work” today. I’ve learned a few good tips by watching the carpenters who have been working on the house, and today I applied a bit of what I’d learned to install some crown molding in a corner to conceal the bits of plaster that don’t quite line up. A bit of […]
What is orange?
An orange is orange.
A carrot is orange.
Pumpkins are are orange.
Pomegranate blossoms are orange.
You can’t rhyme with orange.
Turns out, you can’t match orange, either.
My mom decided she wanted orange trim in her yellow bedroom. We brought home numerous chip charts from local paint and diy stores.
We had Orange Ice, Navel, Mandarin, and Jack O’Lantern.

My beautiful sixteen-year-old niece ran away three weeks ago. We haven’t seen or heard from her since the night she stuffed some clothes under her bed covers and silently […]
It’s raining again today.
In March while staying with friends I read almost every decorating book they had in their house. One idea that caught my attention was a comic-covered metal chair. It gave a new face to “pop art”, as the colors were really in your face. I have an old dark bookcase that I […]
Up for an awareness challenge?
All these years I’ve been blogging I’ve not posted a single video from youtube. I’m posting this one because I’m practicing “being present” in my life, and part of that practice requires observation, which this video depicts. I have to continually resist the temptation to mentally bookmark things just so I […]
Shakaar is the black panther who lives with my friends. We spent three weeks of our recent exile at their house and got to know this unusual feline. You have to watch yourself around Shakaar. Resist that impulse to reach out and stroke that velvet fur or you may find your hand and your pride […]
I thought I was never gonna get out of that time warp. It’s been six weeks since I’ve had internet access except at work. Six weeks since I’ve been able to access Facebook, MySpace, or my own blog. Whew! I don’t want to try that again for awhile.
It was still winter six weeks ago […]
