winter visitors

24 January, 2010 (10:54) | Fauna, Seasons, birds | No comments

We had a few beautiful balmy days, so I went over to the little lake nearby to check on the 20-30 Canada geese that are spending the winter there. They’re so stately, yet gentle creatures. I coaxed a few of them to take bird seed out of my hand. What a thrill. Of course one […]

Old Roses

16 April, 2009 (08:23) | Seasons, Flora, McKinney | No comments

I took the DSLR with me on my walk yesterday instead of the point and shoot, because the p&s only has a small memory card and I fill it quickly. I didn’t realize so many roses and wildflowers were blooming or I would have brought my macro lens instead of the 18-200. It was hard […]

recipe for creativity

21 March, 2009 (14:02) | photography, Seasons, Flora | 1 comment

It’s been a wonderful spring day. Saw and heard lots of mockingbirds during my morning walk. Flowers are increasing exponentially every day lately.
Last week my optometrist told me I have a cataract taking hold in my left eye, and she said it is a normal part of aging, but I don’t like it! I […]

thinking of jimi hendrix or why do i listen to the weatherman?

13 January, 2009 (09:15) | Enemies of the State, Seasons, collage | 2 comments

I threw the newspaper down in disgust. The thermometer outside my kitchen window openly displayed his betrayal. I trusted that cleancut crewcut boy from New Jersey. He whispered softly to my eager ears, “sunny. clear. no chance of rain.”
It’s sunny. It’s clear. No chance of rain. And it’s friggin’ twenty degrees outside. My fingers […]

perigee moon

11 January, 2009 (10:53) | writing, Seasons, poetry | No comments

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,

The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding–riding–riding–up to the old inn-door.
Yesterday the cold came riding in like the highwayman….
It had been warm earlier in the week, almost summer, […]

new moleskine

10 January, 2009 (13:32) | moleskine, writing, Seasons, journaling | No comments

happy new year!
I guess I’ve joined the moleskinerie legion. This is my first moleskine, and I’m in love with it. I have been practicing sketching, doing a little journaling, keeping notes, and doing mini collage in it. I hope it can take a lot of abuse!
I decided I’ve done enough worrying about my house. The […]

future’s so bright

25 December, 2008 (17:38) | Seasons | 1 comment

I didn’t “do” Christmas this year. Just couldn’t get in the mood until early this week.  I see the future as a dark glass, in need of a bit of polish to see the light beyond.
Now I’m thinking I’m a Winter Solstice kinda gal so I gleaned a bit of info about winter celebrations from […]

santa’s on his way…

24 December, 2008 (23:23) | Seasons | No comments

heading toward midnight; time to tuck myself in and start listening for jingle bells and tiny hoofs on the roof. (not rats, please!)

glitter tags

20 December, 2008 (11:06) | Seasons, collage | 1 comment

Hanna inspired me to “get crafty” with her Gift Tag Tutorial yesterday, so I headed out in search of glitter. The day was full of sunshine and warmth; so nice after the ice and snow earlier in the week. I found a cheap packet of glitter for under a dollar at my local Michael’s and […]

snow before the snow

30 November, 2008 (10:38) | Seasons, collin county | No comments

It’s snowing yellow leaves today. They pour down first gently, then spin into eddies, skittering down the street. The brittle droppings of oak and pecan and hackberry accrue into drifts of yellow along the curb until another gust of wind scatters them to the four corners of the county.
Winter’s on its way.
I’m spared the chore […]
