happy valentine’s: love is for suckers
“Imagine a dish like this married to a mug like Benny McBride. The naked and the dead” (Detective Danny Ryan, Armored Car Robbery, 1950.
“What I like about you is you’re rock bottom. I wouldn’t expect you to understand this, but it’s a great comfort for a girl to know she could not possibly sink any lower.” (Barrie Chase to Robert Mitchum, playing the psychopath Max Cody in Cape Fear, 1962).
These are just two examples from a nifty little book of film noir quotes compiled by Charles Pappas called It’s a Bitter Little World. If you love corny and cynical one- or two-liners, I recommend it.
By the way, this is a turkey vulture picking at a fish carcass at the Hagerman Wildlife Refuge, near the southern end of Lake Texoma.
