punching through mental blocks

Mental blocks can take on an infinite variety of forms and disguises. There are the Barmy Brain Waves, the Dots of Doubt, the Cracqueled Cerebellum, and many more. If you’re trapped in a sealed room with no windows or doors with only a mirror, how do you escape? (corny answer to this junior-high school riddle at end of this post)

Yesterday I found some of my art pens, which have been hidden in a box under a bunch of other boxes while we’ve been remodeling, and I just sat down and doodled to see if they still worked. I was surprised to see that I could still come up with creative ideas. I felt 100% better for making the effort. Writer Barbara Kingsolver said you can’t wait for your muse to drop in for a visit; rather you must chain it to your desk and keep on going. Here’s hoping all of us artists can Punch Through those mental blocks to capture our muse.

answer: Look in the mirror to see what you saw. Take the saw. Saw the mirror in half. Two halves make a whole. Put the hole on the wall and climb through it. (I told you it was juvenile - Intro to Puns 101.)
