Araneidae & a rainy day in McKinney

A very pretty spider I saw in the garden yesterday. I had just got down on my hands and knees to shoot this, when I felt something stick into my knee. I didn’t see any stickers growing there, so I leaned on my elbows even closer to the web, trying to steady the camera. Suddenly I felt lots of “stickers” all over my arms. AAAAckk! Fire ants! Fire ants! Jump, jump jump…..get them off! ouch. Well, it has to happen almost every year, the first fire ant bites of the season. It’s a warning to watch where you step, even if it’s your own flower bed.
It’s been misting rain for the last two hours, so I don’t think I’ll be painting today. I can just see Phoebe running in and out of the house, shaking herself dry, and spattering my fresh primer with mud. I think the fumes of that primer were getting to me, anyway, and my sinuses don’t need abuse today. I was so tired and stiff yesterday I could barely think, let alone move. Did I mention this is my vacation time? My mom went to visit her sisters; that’s why I’ve been working on her room. I wanted to finish it by Friday, but if I don’t, I won’t worry. It’s my vacation after all.
