Franklin Cemetery
Here’s another cemetery I found while exploring Collin County. It was nice and peaceful and shaded by a canopy of oaks and pecan trees. There were lots of orb-weaver spiders with giant webs and chickadees and mockingbirds singing in the trees. There were only about 25 gravestones that were legible, so I decided to stop awhile and transcribe them. I sent the results to two online cemetery pages and I hope to see the results on those websites soon. It’s a lot easier than trying to make my own website and those cemetery sites get a lot of traffic, so maybe if someone is looking for an ancestor in “my” cemetery, they’ll be able to find it. This cemetery wasn’t listed on either site, so I feel good knowing I’ve added a little something to their information.
I made a lot of wrong turns in my explorations yesterday and saw a lot of things I probably would never have seen had I stayed in Dallas. I know the county is growing really fast and it’ll be covered with houses in the next five or ten years, but at least I can see some ranches and farmland for a little while. I found another cemetery not listed on the two websites that’s so overgrown it’s barely accessible. I started to plow into the undergrowth until I spotted all the poison ivy twining about and realized I wasn’t wearing long pants. I want to go back with some clippers and see what I can find in there. I photographed two headstones and saw at least three more in scattered spots, so maybe there’s a treasure trove waiting for me.
